Abstract
This book presents the detailed proceedings of the XVIIth National Congress on Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, held in Clermont Ferrand in 1974. The three main subjects discussed were tuberculosis, bronchial asthma and air pollution. In the first place, extensive reference is made to the available tuberculostatic agents; the required minimal concentrations in vitro and in vivo, determined in part on the basis of experiments in animals, are listed. Mention is then made of the various schemes for combined therapy, with a report of the clinical results obtained. A description is given of the epidemiological aspects, with special reference to the French situation. In the second part, a detailed discussion is presented of the etiology and pathogenesis of bronchial asthma, of the results of pulmonary function studies, of the histopathology of the respiratory passages, of the effect of fungal infections and of the therapeutical possibilities.
