N2 - Compliance with physicians' instructions was studied in children and adolescents on oral penicillin prophylaxis against rheumatic fever. Several sociomedical factors were found to be associated with increased risk of noncompliance. This risk increases with the number of factors present. The data demonstrate the critical importance of sociomedical factors in the long-term management of chronically ill children and adolescents.
