Why Integrity Matters for Nurse Leaders: A Case Application

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Nurse leaders confront myriad ethical challenges in their diverse roles. Many are experiencing significant levels of moral injury that are associated with low organizational effectiveness, burnout, and turnover. Harnessing the power of their integrity offers a guide and a protective resource to meet these challenges. Integrity, as a foundational value, is applied to a case scenario to illustrate its dimensions, requirements for nurse leaders, and strategies to address threats to their integrity while engaging their moral resilience. Cultivating integrity preserving practices support nurse leaders to remain whole and grounded amid the rapidly changing health care landscape while systemic reforms are implemented.
