N2 - 1. Seventy-seven cases of neurogenic tumors of the larynx have been previously reported. We have added nine. 2. Eleven cases of laryngeal neurofibromas in association with von Recklinghausen's disease (multiple neurofibromatosis) have been previously described. We have added two. 3. The symptoms of neurogenic tumors of the larynx are typical of slow-growing, benign lesions, i.e., the feeling of a lump in the throat, a foreign body sensation on swallowing, slowly progressing changes in voice and inspiratory dyspnea. 4. Diagnosis is usually made by direct laryngoscopy and biopsy. Laryngeal laminograms are often helpful in localizing the lesion. An external approach should be used if any difficulty is anticipated. 5. In our experience lateral thyrotomy offers the most direct and least hazardous approach for complete removal of the tumor.
