Abstract

Attempts were made upon a small series of human patients to introduce an endoscope through the anterior abdominal wall and uterus at 16 to 18 weeks of intrauterine pregnancy for fetal observation and biopsy. The results of that procedure were technically successful but the fetus died in each case. Research and development are needed to improve this potentially valuable diagnostic technique.
