Transplant Rejection and Infection Associated Tubulointerstitial Nephritis

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) in Kidney allografts is one of the most common pathologic findings on biopsy. A myriad of etiologies including rejection, infection and drugs have been implicated. While there is considerable overlap in clinical and pathologic presentation with respect to TIN as a consequence of these etiologies, patient history, timing of transplant and characteristic features on allograft biopsy aids in distinguishing them. The focus of this chapter is to review rejection and viral infection as causes of TIN, in addition to treatment strategies.
