Abstract

Cranial defects requiring cranioplasty reconstruction can result from a variety of etiologies that require neurosurgical intervention for intracranial pathology. The goals of craniofacial reconstruction are to restore skull continuity for cerebral protection, restore craniofacial contour and symmetry, and reverse associated neurological deficits. Techniques and timing of cranioplasty reconstruction to optimize outcomes are presented and how to address accompanying bone flap defects is discussed.
