Abstract

Multi-axial active stresses were included in a continuum model to reproduce stress-strain relations in the barium-contracted tissue during biaxial tests. A simple ratio between axial and transverse stress at the myofilament level was sufficient to produce multiaxial test results produced when angular dispersion and hydrostatic pressure were included. Using this result in a 3-D model of the systolic left ventricular improved substantially the agreement with in-vivo experimental findings compared to previous models.
