Abstract

We present an analytical expression for the sawtooth amplitude (STA) in an isolated cell-pair with junctional resistance (Rj). Experimentally, STA was estimated in isolated guinea pig cell-pairs by optically recording transmembrane potential responses (Vm) with subcellular spatial resolution. We estimated STA to be approximately 14 mV for a 10 V/cm field. From theoretical calculations, this corresponds to an Rj of approximately 22 MΩ.
