We describe a nasal challenge model for allergic rhinitis. This model demonstrates the presence of inflammatory mediators during both the early and the late reactions following exposure to specific allergens. The mediators measured include histamine, TAME-esterase, kinin, leukotriene C4, and prostaglandin D2. A discussion of their role in the pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis is presented.
