Abstract
Sports-related injuries are predictable and, for the most part, preventable if we make an eye safety prescription part of our routine. We can decrease eye injuries by prescribing appropriate eyewear, which takes no more than 10 seconds, once the office is set up to promote eye safety. This article is designed to be a practical guide to the busy practicing ophthalmologist as an aid in writing a protective eyewear prescription and discusses the many different types of available eye protectors, radiation and optical radiation protection, protective filter materials, and welding filters.
