Abstract
The PCA total knee system has been designed to improve both knee function and long-term fixation stability. The design premise, that closely simulating the kinematics of the normal knee would improve both short- and long-term function, has been supported by the early clinical results. Cementless application of the PCA knee has been cautiously applied in the preliminary series, but it is now estimated that over 50 per cent of all primary total knee replacements can be inserted without cement. The early results justify continuing application of these precepts.
