Perhaps the most significant neurosurgical advance that has surfaced within the past decade is the development and evolution of various frameless imageguided surgical systems. Computer-aided image guidance dramatically improves the surgeon’s visualization of the operative field both before and during surgery, thereby reducing both the invasiveness and potential morbidity of a host of neurosurgical procedures.
