Abstract

In our histopathologic studyof retinoblastomas exhibiting an unusual form of differentiation, it seemed apparent that these tumors were producing structures resembling elements of the photoreceptor cell. An electron microscopic study was made to further detail the cytologic characteristics of these tumorcells. The cytologic similarities and differences between these differentiated tumor cells and the mature and developing normal photoreceptor cells were of special interest for investigation. Evidence of neuroglial differentiation such as formation of Müller's cells was also sought.
