Abstract

The technique of appendicovesicostomy and the creation of a low-pressure urinary reservoir, as described by Mitrofanoff, has been a significant contribution to the reconstruction of the lower urinary tract. With careful patient selection and education, meticulous surgical technique, and long-term follow-up, this procedure can provide adequate urine storage and emptying by clean intermittent catheterization in a majority of patients.
