Abstract

The incidence of thoracolumbar and lumbar curves in the adult population is 3.9%. Fifty nine percent have pain, comparable to the general population. Left lumbar curves predominate. People with scoliosis gravitate to lighter occupations. The greater the curve the greater the severity of pain. Age bore no relationship to the incidence of pain. This paper serves to present the incidence of deformity in the adult population. The incidence of pain, degree of pain, its relationship to age, degree of curvature, radiological changes, curve pattern and occupation is presented.
