Abstract

In recent years, the role of bronchoscopy has expanded to include an additional therapeutic modality: the endoscopic administration of medications. Ranging from the topical application of antiproliferative drug to the injection of chemotherapeutic agents, bronchoscopically administered medications may have a significant impact on a wide variety of diseases, both malignant and benign. This chapter explores the role of transbronchial needle injection (TBNI) and endobronchial intratumoral chemotherapy (ETIC) in the management of non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), as well as advances made in the management of idiopathic, infectious, inflammatory, and posttransplant-related nonmalignant thoracic conditions.
