Abstract
Surgical approaches in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are changing with technical advances and better understanding of tumor biology. The use of surgery within combined-modality treatment programs has improved survival of patients with a variety of cancer types. Surgical resection of metastatic lung or liver disease can be curative in some cases.
