Abstract
The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) was replicated on a population of Midwestern students (N = 1,939). Scores were factor analyzed, and the results compared with the factor structures reported in two earlier studies of students and school administrators. Factors I (Conformity-Neurotic Anxiety) and III (Extraversion) are invariant in all three analyses. Factors III (Capacity for Achievement) and IV (Superego Strength) differ across populations. This may be due to population idiosyncracies for Factor III, but possibly represents overfactoring in the case of Factor IV.
