Abstract
Telehealth is a process of transferring medical information using telecommunication technology for the delivery of clinical and educational services. Over the years, it has been a resource to address healthcare disparities in underresourced areas. For children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and medically complex disorders living in underresourced areas, telehealth has served to improve access to specialists in academic and tertiary centers. In this review, an overview of telehealth and telemedicine is provided while also showing the benefits of telehealth in disasters like the recent SARS-Cov-2 pandemic. Technological innovation has highlighted the future possibilities in using artificial intelligence, machine learning, voice recognition software, in improving efficiency, enhancing the quality of healthcare, and also opening new vistas to research.
