Abstract

Although we have not utilized mechanical sutures in our cases, it would appear that the EEA stapling device should be suitable for constructing the anastomosis. The method has proved safe and simple. Emphasis is placed on secure and easy identification of the rectal stump, and the technique of implanting the proximal colon as an end-to-side coloproctostomy which totally eliminates the need for exposing the ureters or mobilizing the rectum.
