The studies performed by Dr. Klippel and his colleagues are unique. Meticulously performed, they represent 15 years of effort by this group. The object of these investigators was to determine the ideal clinical therapeutic approach to the therapy of lupus nephritis and special emphasis on severe diffuse proliferative disease. The current conclusion is that intravenous cyclophosphamide combined with daily prednisone offers the best chance of remission or control and helps to minimize the toxicity of both drugs.
