Abstract

A modal superposition method is presented for obtaining the response of a single-degree-of-freedom tertiary subsystem mounted on a primary-secondary system. The method is direct in that the response of the tertiary subsystem is obtained in terms of the properties of the input excitation without need to generate intermediate floor response spectra for the primary-secondary system. The method is also general in that any method in random vibrations based on modal superposition can be applied to obtain the tertiary subsystem response.
