Abstract
Monoclonal antibodies were developed against the baboon papovavirus simian agent 12 (SA12). Both SA12-specific and simian virus 40-polyoma Papovaviridae genus-reactive monoclones were isolated. Immunoprecipitation and SDS-PAGE of [35S]methionine-labeled SA12 revealed that all monoclonal antibodies, whether SA12 specific or reactive throughout the genus, were directed against the major capsid protein, VP1, thus directly confirming antigenic polymorphism in this polypeptide.
