Abstract

The increasing emphasis on open reduction and bone-grafting techniques in the treatment of facial fractures has required a search for incisions which provide generalized exposure of all fracture sites. A requirement for these incisions is that the aesthetic results be improved over those usually utilized for facial fracture reduction. It has been a curious fact that some surgeons performing different procedures in the same anatomic area utilize one set of incisions for aesthetic eyelid surgery and another for facial fracture reduction. Apparently, noticeable scars are to be accepted as a sequel to facial fracture treatment but are not appropriate following cosmetic surgical procedures.
