Abstract
Seventy patients with unstable angina underwent continuous electrocardiographic Holter monitoring for the detection of silent ischemia while receiving combination therapy with nitrates, beta-blocking agents, and calcium channel antagonists. Thirty-seven of these patients were asymptomatic but had ST-segment changes indicating ischemia, and 33 patients had no ST-segment changes that would indicate either symptomatic or silent ischemia. The presence of silent ischemia was shown to be the best predictor of two-year outcome.
