Total IgE Immunoassay Standardization Total serum IgE immunoassays are standardized against one of several IgE reference preparations to assure accuracy and interlaboratory comparability. In 1973, the British Medical Research Council produced a standard human serum IgE preparation (691 204) which was declared the first International Reference Preparation by the WHO Expert Committee on Biological Standarization. This standard was unfortunately found to be hepatitis B positive and in 1981, a second International Reference Prepa- ration (75/502) was prepared.” In the same year, a U.S. Reference Preparation was made available from the National Institutes of Health. In an American Academy of Allergy Study, it has been shown to contain 900 IU/mL of 1gE.l2 Most recently, a trilevel Canadian IgE Reference Preparation containing 0.25, 92, and 360 lU/mL has become available through the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Imrn~nology.~ Funding Information: The authors wish to thank the Filariasis component of the UNDP/World Bank/ WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases and the NIH for their support in the preparation of this manuscript.",
