Abstract

The DNA encoding a chicken Na+, K+-ATPase β2-subunit was cloned and sequenced. The deduced amino acid sequence has structural features common to all known Na+, K+-ATPase β2-subunits. It is proposed to belong to the β2-isoform family, though the amino acid sequence has significantly diverged from mammalian β2-subunit sequences. Similar to other Na+, K+-ATPase β2-isoforms, the chicken β2-isoform mRNA is predominantly expressed in brain tissue.
