Abstract
Objective: To determine the patients' demographic and clinical characteristics with metabolic syndrome, in a group of persons with two or more cardiovascular risk factors, in order to obtain a profile that allows the later development of medical interventions level of promotion of the health and prevention of the disease, acting on the modifiable factors of risk. Materials and methods: There were carried out a descriptive study, taking 63 people of the database from the project: "Chronic not transmissible diseases", in which, previous informed assent, measurements were taken in body and a sample of blood for biochemical analysis, in order to characterize patients adequately with metabolic syndrome. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 74,2%, being major in women (78,7%) and persons from 50 to 59 years (84,2%). In the group of patients with metabolic syndrome, the prevalence of sedentary was 74,5%, tobacco consumption: 71,4% and alcohol consumption: 63,25%. The most important clinical precedents were the diabetes, Dislipidemia, obesity, hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Conclusions: There were found a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the studied population. It is necessary to advance a population study, in order to have ideal tools for the development of strategies that promote the ways of healthy life.
