Abstract
Present training for management of the trauma patient is unsystematic and inefficient. Video vignettes of real trauma patient management can be used to illustrate conformity with standard protocols, show ideal performance in difficult or unusual situations or identify decision-making dilemmas. Simulated events while useful for rote-learning are of limited value because of the constraints of the simulated patients and clinical situations. Development of video training vignettes requires a rigorous approach to collection and analysis of video images from real scenarios.
