Reagan administration health policy

IN the early months of the Reagan Administration a clear cut policy toward health care has been established. This policy is reflected in the fiscal year 1982 budget submission to the Congress, legislative proposals regarding the revision or renewal of existing legislation, and numerous statements by Administration officials before the Congress, media, and public. This policy represents a profound shift in direction in the health sector. It encompasses a far-reaching reexamination of the role of the federal government in financing health care services, administering direct programs to promote preventive and primary care services, regulating costs in the health sector, sponsoring biomedical, behavioral, and social science research, and supporting the training of health professionals.
