Abstract

The role of quality in vascular laboratory services has never been more important than today. Consumers of healthcare – patients, providers, health systems, and payers, both private and governmental – rightly demand quality in all facets of care. The traditional focus of quality efforts based exclusively on diagnostic accuracy judged by external validation is no longer sufficient to fully assess the performance of a vascular lab. Comprehensive quality programs are needed to develop, maintain, and constantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided in the vascular noninvasive lab and to allow the vascular lab to continue to function as a central and essential component in the management of vascular disease.
