Abstract
A patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complicated by septic polyarthritis due to Proteus mirabilis is reported. The rarity of this organism in the etiology of articular sepsis and the infrequency with which septic joints complicate SLE are emphasized. Early diagnosis and therapy depend upon awareness of possible bacterial infection and prompt synoviocentesis.
