Abstract
Systemic mycoses, particularly candidiasis and aspergillosis, may be acquired as a direct result of hospitalization. Prevention of candidiasis rests upon avoiding therapeutic maneuvers which lead first to enhanced Candida colonization of the patient and then to breaks in tissue barriers. Prevention of aspergillosis rests upon protecting the severely immunosuppressed patient from airborne spores.
