To the Editor: In describing “A Practice Plan in a Municipal Teaching Hospital” in the January 29 issue, Schmidt et al. minimized the antagonism between academic and private clinicians that may follow an increase in private practice by salaried faculty in municipal hospitals. Perhaps such a happy atmosphere exists in Baltimore. In St. Paul a decision by St. Paul Ramsey Hospital to enlarge its staff and expand its activity into populations formerly served by private clinicians has soured previously cordial and cooperative professional relations. In possible contrast to Baltimore, St. Paul has not had a large population of indigent or.
