Abstract
Today the American Board of Radiology holds examinations in the following 4 specialities: radiology, radiodiagnostics, radiodiagnostics with special competence in nuclear medicine, and radiotherapy. On the average, training for these specialities takes four years. Curriculum details are presented, together with training organisation, professional associations and continuing education provisions. Most states in the USA require a certificated radiologist to have at least 30 hours or recognised continuing educaton in his field per year. For this person, most of the larger training centers and university hospitals organise regular courses; the indications are that in the near future the final examination will be followed up by periodic examinations to make sure physicians keep up in their fields.
