Abstract
EAE, post-Semple rabies vaccine encephalomyelitis, and post-infectious encephalomyelitis share a common pathology, monophasic clinical course, and immune reactivity to myelin proteins, particularly MBP. Two of these diseases are induced by inoculation of neural tisssue. The mechanism of induction of autoimmune reactivity in post-infectious encephalomyelitis is not as yet understood. It is possible that virus-induced altered immune regulation, altered antigen presentation within the CNS, genetic factors, and cross-reactivity of viral and neural proteins may all play a role in the development of this neurologic disease.
