Abstract

Despite the ubiquity of cigarette smoking, the pharmacological determinants of this behavior have only recently become a focus of substantial research efforts. This research has revealed human cigarette smoking to be an orderly form of drug self-administration which is responsive to a variety of pharmacological manipulations.
