Abstract

In this chapter, we report on the peer-reviewed literature on robot-assisted cystectomy with respect to perioperative outcomes and complications. The majority of studies demonstrate comparable outcomes for robotic versus open cystectomy. Most studies show longer operative time for robotic surgery, but lower blood loss, shorter time to recovery of bowel function, and length of stay. Complications with robotic cystectomy are generally minor, and multiple studies have demonstrated fewer overall complications in patients undergoing robotic cystectomy.
