Abstract

Percutaneous access to the renal collecting system can be a challenging and complex endeavor, in great part due to the accuracy, reproducibility, and fine motor movements that are required. Robotic technology has been demonstrated to simplify a number of the components of this procedure. Reported benefits of robotic technology include improved safety, accuracy, and clinical outcomes, as well as decreased operative times and complication rates. Although much of robotic percutaneous access remains investigational at this time, the future will likely witness an increasing role for these technologies in improving the precision and accuracy of these procedures.
