Abstract
This chapter reviews common diseases in perching birds in the orders Passeriformes, Caprimulgiformes, Coraciiformes, Piciformes, Bucerotiformes, and Apodiformes. Focus is on of the characteristic gross and histologic lesions they produce. Topics include iron overload, zinc toxicosis and wind turbine and window strike as well as infection with West Nile virus, poxvirus, Salmonella spp., and systemic isosporidiosis. Several diseases, including malaria, have significant population and conservation effects.
