Abstract
There is extensive overlap between sleep disturbances and psychiatric illness, especially mood and anxiety disorders. This article provides a general review of subjective and objective sleep characteristics that may be affected by mental disorders, as well as a discussion of how sleep difficulties can influence the course of psychiatric disorders.
