Abstract

It is critical to differentiate normal age-related sleep changes in healthy individuals and actual sleep problems in older adults that might be associated with other declines in health and in turn have negative consequences on health and well-being. This article will describe age-related changes to sleep and circadian rhythms, risk factors for sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances, and will conclude with optimal healthy sleep and circadian rhythm habits in older adults.
