Abstract

Proper training of the operative team and thoughtful organization of the operating room for advanced operative laparoscopy aids greatly the surgeon in the performance of the operative task. There is no satisfactory substitute for the team approach. If laparoscopic surgery is to be performed on an emergency basis at any time over a 24-hour period then proper team coverage must be available at all times. The laparoscopic instrumentation must also be arranged so that the time required for cleaning and sterilization does not prolong room turn-over time.
