Noise-induced sleep deprivation: Toward sleeping soundly on noisy nights

Jeffrey M. Ellenbogen

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

This chapter will introduce the reader to the concept of noise-induced sleep disruption. Three questions will be tackled: (1) what noises disrupt sleep? (2) what conventional approaches exist to mitigate these noises? and (3) what can brain sciences teach us about potential alternatives to mitigating the effects of noise on sleep? The chapter will focus primarily on hospital settings, as they pose interesting practical and theoretical issues for our expanding healthcare system.
