Purpose: .Initial evaluation of night dnving simulation after photorefractive keratectomy. Methods Detection dislances of road signs under normal (n), haze (h), and glare (g) conditions vere recorded in each eye of 4 postoperative PRK patients with best optical correction using the nighi driving simulator system (DSS) Mea;urements were repeated 6 times for each category. Two of the patients had night driving symptoms which persisted 2 years after PRK and refused surgery in their second eye The other two patients had bilateral PRK Detection differences between left and right eyes were compared to clinital measurements of intraocular light scatter using the straylight meter. Results Detection distances were significantly decreased in symptomatic eyes and eyes with increased light scatter (average detection distance decrease: n: 5 3%, CV=5.0%, h 4 3%, CV=3.7%; g. 14 1%, CV=67%) Conclusions Night driving simulation may provide a sensitive functional measure of visual outcome after PRK P.
