Abstract
Herpes zoster can be an intractable problem in the elderly and the immunosuppressed. Palliative therapy and antiviral drugs are effective during acute herpes zoster outbreaks, and tricyclic antidepressants, opioids, and other agents can be used to reduce the severe pain of postherpetic neuralgia.
