Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent solid tumors worldwide and represents the third cause ofmortality amongdeaths fromcancer (1).HCC frequency isparticularly high in Asia and Africa because of the high frequency of viral hepatitis infections and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) exposure. The increased incidence of HCC in the United States, United Kingdom, and France over the last 10 years (2, 3) is thought to reflect the increase of viral hepatitis C infections.
