Abstract
Although there has been enormous improvement in the safety and accuracy of our diagnostic approaches and in the precision and safety of our surgical techniques, the long-term survival of patients with malignant brain tumors remains dismal. With an increased understanding of the fundamental biologic characteristics of brain tumors, we should be able to improve the outlook for these patients.
