Abstract

Objective: Analyse the corneal cellular structure in apparently normal corneas with confocal microscopy. Methods: Ten corneas were studied with confocal microscopy (ConfoScan 2.0, Fortune Tecnologies Srl., Italy) in vivo, non invasive and in real time to analyse morphology of the different corneal structures. Results: The superficial epithelium, basal epithelial cells, subepithelial nervous plexus, stroma and corneal endothelium were observed. Conclusions: We have demonstrated the utility of the confocal microscope to observe and analyse the corneal cellular population, which has a potential role in the evaluation of the dynamic and structural changes important for the diagnosis and evaluation of the patient.
